The route of "El Cid" is a tourist cultural itinerary based on a historical character, Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, and one of the great classics of world literature: "El Cantar de mío Cid", an epic chant, anonymous and written in romance language (post quem date and ante quem: 1195-1207), that narrates the exploits of the Castilian excellent hero, the most sublime gentleman of the medieval Spain.

The origin of the current route of "El Cid" goes back to 1996, in which the Deputation of Burgos enabled a18-kilometers path that joints Vivar del Cid and San Pedro de Cardeña through the city of Burgos. The trajectory of the current path crystallized in 2002 with the establishment of the Consortium Route of "El Cid" and the incorporation to the project of the county councils of Soria, Guadalajara, Zaragoza, Teruel, Castellón, Valencia and Alicante. It is a free credential, which is sealed in more than 100 locations in route, as in the Rural Tourist Center "La Cerca de Dona Jimena". The document is inspired in the typology of the medieval documents. It serves to grant travelers of the Cid's Route an economic benefit of a 10% discount and a gift from the epic itinerary that the wayfarer has made. In addition to punctual promotions.
